a lot of your decision depends on plant size ,time constraints before bad weather, etc. a new grower in eastern united states for example would start there plants on or around early may. put plants in ground around the 15 th of may, have a big enough plant to start pollinations by around the second week in july, then leave one on the main vine and one on a side vine for the season.
