at this time of the season most new growers are between 150 to 250 (or better ) pounds.
if you have not done so now is the time for those final pumpkin to main angle adjustments.
also in the case of pumpkins with very short stems? pulling the fruit back from the vine.
get some help moving the fruit.
be sure enough tap roots are cut on main at both sides of the fruit. plus a couple tap roots on side vines directly across and to the sides of the fruit. (they need to be able to give a little )
move the fruit a couple inches at a time (with help )

I was optimistic until I read this thread! I felt good being @ 42 pounds this morning. My largest is on day 17. I knew I was a little behind most growers, but I did not think I was that far off!

I'm behind also, 35 pounds, but, everything is going great now, no weather problems. One of my plants has a secondary growing on its secondary, I have'nt seen that before.

Most growers are just trying to do better every year. If I was going for the record I would need lots of money to take the summer off and enough room for 10 competition plants and good luck.

ya gots ta learn how to walk before ya kin run. some of the more experienced growers have been at it for many many years.
they started out just like you. in fact if you go back before the age of the computer and better yet a big pat on the back to the bp site?, you would find those new growers had to rely on telephone and us mail system.so you guys are way ahead on the learning curve.
to your question about where the more experienced growers are at ?
at thirty days from pollination they are anywhere between 450 and 600 pounds ( depending on climate and weather conditions
by the end of this thirty day period they are also expecting to reach or be close to their biggest daily weight gains ( usually anywhere between 32 and 40 pounds per day average for a couple ,possibly three weeks) then the daily weight gains start to fall.

BP is a huge help. No matter who you are, it is a god send.

Those numbers are amazing. Maybe one day.

Interesting to see how this thing has grown. Look at the 1999 diaries and see how few people were in there compared to now.

Thanks for all the advise you give us "newbies". I will always be in the lower weight classes due to my locaton but your advise has helped alot. I am just under 100lbs at day 30 and i am happy with that. I know it should be embarassing but what the heck. THIS IS FUN!!!

Jeremy if you really want to know how pap and ron grow'm big then you should read the book backyard giants. It's a GREAT book and worth every penny.

You can buy it on amazon for $20 or so.
