Didn't expect it with pumpkin growing well. Keep pinching it off?

If you don't trim it, it will turn into a giant growth and a big mess.

This growth keeps coming and coming.. Keep it cut off and the massive jungle syndrome will be avoided.

How do you get water to that area { isn't this part essential ? } but keep it dry at the same time? I've been stump watering all along, should I not do this??

I think what they mean is to not get the stump itself wet but to water around it where its roots extend out to.

Having some experience and numerous stump issues I wouldnt water anywhere within 3 ft of the stump after it starts vining. The roots are well out from that 3x3 box of non-watering and there's no concern of stressing the plant out if the immediate area is dry. Furthermore i drive 4 pvc pipe (2ft lengths, 6-8 inches in the ground, 18 or so above the ground) at the four corners and place a glass window over the stump to keep it dry...no sprinklers hit it...no rain. I paint the stump periodically with fungiside...and maintain a buzz cut on the leaves that want to pop up. Clean, dry, and leaf-free...fungus hostile environment is the way to go. (I drive the pvc in so the window will slightly slope for rain runoff)
