hello all.

well i decided that this giant pumpkin thing seems like a fun idea for the family to give a try. one big problem seems to be i am about two month to late to start this.

i want to grow a few big boys in the back yard and i want to know if i start now will i have enough time to get to a good size BEFOR halloween? i dont care about competitions i just want a big beautiful pumpkin display.

I ordered my several different "size" seeds from dill's and i will plant within a week. i have the area all prepped and have done a ton of reading. i think my only enemy for now is time. so my question is do i still have time.

florida is pretty hot, but if you done your prepp and plant within the week then you wil pollinate in mid to late august and have some awsome halloween pumpkins. if you get one set mid august you could stil have a 200/300 lbs pumpkin by oktober first.

I'd give it a go. Maybe it will work and maybe it won't. The only thing you have to lose is a couple seeds. And seeds aren't hard to come by. Its a lot better than sitting a whole year out, in my opinion.

If you don't have one I'd get a shade tarp and put it up ASAP.

I am building a green house for them this week end. i plan to grow several different types including the standard sizes. i have mapped out a 1000SQ foot area of our yrad for this project and fenced it all in for wind protection.

I have no doubt that i will be asking ALOT of question here in the very near future

One AG plant takes up anywhere from 500 to 750 SQ ft. you might need a little more room.

I'm trying too Ampresearch! I've got pumpkins growing, but they are just seeds from Burpee. Big Max, Prize Winner, some Cinderella pumpkins. I don't know if these new big seeds will take or not, but I'm going to try anyway. So Punkin Pharmer? I need to tarp when I put the seeds in the ground? I won't grow inside, I think i'll have better luck putting them straight out. Then again, I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm having a good time :)
