thank god for small favors,

after a rather unusually cool cloudy may we seem to have finally broken free in june.

many growers are behind last years plants ( me to ) but not to fear. a lot of the weighoffs are scheduled a week later this year so we got a shot to gain in the end.

a really good june can help us catch up rather quickly. now that the houses will be off soon, those other plants that were spoon fed heat and light since planting will be on equal footing with yours.
now that balanced soil really plays a major roll.

id advise keeping the plants well watered for this next couple weeks and lay off the water soluable ferts until the main is on the ground and running.
after which for a while just go with the kelp/fish nothing stronger.

id stay away from a lot of nitrogen rich ferts for a while as well. it will make the mains and side so stiff your vine ends will look like they are on viagra-no kidding

thanks for the info. I was just getting ready to switch my fertilizing routine to higher nitrogen concentration. Will stick to the seaweed and fish for the next couple of weeks!

My weather is starting to warm to but I not sure it is enough to get them going good. Things seem slow here. How warm does it need to be? It seems my night time temps are still cool (40's). Daytimes have been in the 70's. I just checked and it 49 degrees at 5:53 in the morning.

Thanks Pap, I need to learn to wait to see what to do next. My husband has one of those Viaga Pumpkins and he only used fish on his so far. I didn't know and used a side dressing of organic(5-3-3)plant food on my pumpkin. Maybe it is far enough away from the roots it won't hurt.

Who's vines aren't on the ground? You guys better start jumping up and down on them to get them down! Hurry up! I've heard Glyphosate will make them very limp and trainable.
