Any fast easily accesible fungicide (lowes/ Home depot/ace)for a newbie to kill off the white mold on top of the soil?

Aliette if you're sure it is Pythium. However if it is Pythium, the plant will succumb long before you can treat. Are you sure the white stuff isn't just lime from the water?

Sratch up lightly just the surface mold, and dont water, and move to direct sunlight, and air. But if it is Pythium well Steve gave you the answer! Good luck.

you probably just had the plants to wet and in a damp area at night.( or lack of day sunlite?)
ditto to scraping off the mold ( gently with a hand held hoe) no, not that kind of hoe-lol. then scratching to aireate the soil surface lightly.
heating the surface area after repairing will also help clear it up pap

Is the white mold on the soil in your patch or on the soil in pots?

In the pots....we have sprayed a fungicide, scraped off the contaminted dirt and been keeping them in the sun a bit and keeping airflow moving in the room. Any other tips? The tips of one of the leaves in a bit brown...is this a bad sign of things to come?

Bacon,
Alot of times the cots, and first few true leaves look like heck, some of my best plants, and fruit came from some pretty bad looking seedlings. My 2cents it should see the patch, and if it lives, thats a great sign. Go for it!!!
