If you plant your seedling in the wrong direction will the plant grow toward the sun.

Not usually. You can turn the vine if you must. Some folks patiently & carefully "flip" the vine over very gently. All manner of slings & supports have been fabricated to make this work. Depending on the available space, I would just turn it in a gentle "U-TURN".

Main vines can be coaxed to grow in a different direction by using patience and sticks to help guide. I use the cheap 2 foot bamboo sticks you can get in most garden centers. Use the sticks in an X position to gently persuade the plant to vine in the direction you wish "slowwwly".

a plant seedling had two seed leaves ( the first two that develop from inside the pumpkin seed.
then it throws the frist true leaf.
the main vine will drop in the direction of the tip of the second true leaf.
(good to keep in mind for the future so you dont have the situation you mentioned.)
