Ok this is completley open for opinions, I know plants feed off of light and that for pumpkins the more direct sunlight the better, however I have also heard that if you use a blue shade of light when growing (certain) seedlings they will grow short and stocky and for other (certain) seedlings using a red shade of light they will be tall and leggy? so my question is has anyone ever experimented with this on pumpkins or more interestingly has anyone every tried to shade a pumpkin plant with say a thin blue or red sheet to see if it even effects the plant differently just some late night thinking, I'm a night shift guy. Look forward to reply's

I've heard this too, but I think the resultes would be simmilar for both; they would streach more because they would be getting less light with eather filter.

I use red green blue lights, found no difference. They sure look cool at night in the hoop house.

the very best light for night time heat source is the black 40 watt halloween bulb it throws off a purple /blk light that really does not light up the area but left sitting a ft away from the plant keeps it cozy on cool nights.( not to close or it will burn the plant) we have used all colors of yellow-blk-blue-green with no ill effects pap

Thanks for the input, has anyone ever noticed a difference in the seedling when using different color lights, I would prefer a short thick seedling versus a long leggy one for safety reasons

USUALLY THE ONLY TIME A SEEDLING GETS "LEGGY" IS WHILE ITS STILL IN THE POT AND THE LIGHT SOURCE (OR EVEN SITTING IN THE WINDOW GETTING SUNLITE) IF TO FAR AWAY FROM THE PLANT. ONCE IN THE GROUND AND BURIED UP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEED LEAVES SHE WILL NOT GET LEGGY. WHEN OUR SEEDLINGS ARE UNDER A GROW LIGHTING SYSTEM THAT FIRST THREE OR FOUR DAYS OF LIFE , THE PROFESSIONAL LIGHTS ARE ONLY AN INCH ABOVE THE YOUNG PLANTS.
