Hi I was reading the different posts about growers using maple syrup. What is the need?

I can't speak for the grower, but I think he or she just wanted it to consume. I don't think it is used in growing pumpkins.

I have a question about Maple syrup. Does it go bad after you open it? I have a quart bottle of it only used it once. I notice the other day there was mold growing in it. Should I toss it?

Pancakes & French Toast for sure! Compost pile gets black strap molasses. Maple syrup is too expensive & delicious to throw on the ground!
Since there are no preservatives in real maple syrup, it does need to be refrigerated after opening. If it's moldy then it's time enough for the compost pile!

Sugar source....As the temperatue rises the bacteria and microbes in the soil require a growth stimuli...adding the sugar from molasses or maple syrup or corn syrup(old Coke cans, pepsi left over fom a party etc) will give food to these critters....Beer Clunkers ( all those half beers left over with cigarette butts in em are good also)...so have a party pick up all the left over cans put them in one container and apply...GrowEmBig! Sequoia-Greg now would be a good time to toss the syrup. Mold is not good with syrop.
