What tells you to keep a new plant, and replace it with another? you veteran growers have that ability to know if a newly started plant is worth keeping,or should be replaced with another.

not REALLY sure what you are saying, but far as i know people do not replace existing plants with new ones, they may plant back ups just in case their "favorites" go down. You really only have one little window to plant and grow a huge one, you can still have a large one if things do not go right at first, but you will not be the world record holder.

I plant 3 for every 1 I want to grow (1 desired, 2 backups). This is fine if you have enough seeds. When the seedlings are ready I put 3 plants into each mound/greenhouse and let all grow. I wont remove anything until the vines start to run. At that point I pick the best one (hopefully my desired) and remove the rest.

Good Question,,jordan is that better than growing just the desired one, 1 & 2 back ups? better to loose the seeds than the time? by having to pull two?

Hi all. I put to plants 4 feet apart in each greenhouse. After they start to run (5 to 6 foot main) I try to select the heartiest of the two and the other is cut off. If they appear as equals the backup plant is the one removed.

Yes, I dont rip them out in fear of damaging the good plants roots.

I figure, even if you have backups, there is no way to tell which is growing better if they are not all in the same environment. A good seed is a good seed, but if its not growing the best, I use another.
Further, if/once you decide to keep a diff. plant, you lose time transplanting, and possibly some time to become acclimated from shock, etc. Better to put them all out at once.
That being said, I dont recommend taking your 1502, 1068, 998, etc and planting them all and cutting 2 off, just select the preferred one, and 2 decent backups and if in fact a backup is doing much better, keep it.
