I stopped in at a roadside stand and the man selling pumpkins there had some huge pumpkins. He called them "Cow Pumpkins." What is a cow pumpkin? I am having a problem finding information on them.

I've heard people refer to regular jack o lantern pumpkins refered to as cow pumpkins as some farmers grow them to be fed to thier cows.

Where the stem attaches it makes a star on the pumpkin...its not any type of general field pumpkin. It looks similar to a RUMBO, but its not as thick and heavy...

Well then you are talking about the Dickinson Field Pumpkin. They are a C.Moschata with a smooth tan skin used for commercial processing. My guess is they are much higher in carbohydrates and a better tasting pumpkin for eating. Our Goats and Sheep can just about tell by looks which ones are the tasty ones.
