Thank you first for your help, it is priceless to me. My question is, how cold does it have to get at night to start putting blankets on the pumpkin? How much colder until you start using heaters or something similar?

No electricity at our patch so we're being careful.
We switched from sheets to blankets as soon as the temps started to drop into the lower 60's. Lower than that & it is good to also wrap the blanketed pumpkin in a poly tarp. We still like to remove the blanket & just use a sheet during the day so the fruit can warm back up. By mid-September we'll completely uncover the pumpkin during the day so as to improve the color but we'll wrap it again at sundown.

Yeah below 60 degrees in when ya wanna start. Im starting this week and I thought it was cool that I had to use more then one blanket on some of my pumpkins. My girlfriends not happy about me using our good blankets but I told her Ill use my own personal blanket. The pumpkins come first we all know that.
