Keep the fruit clean, dry and out of the direct sun. RI growers cover theirs with blankets. Keeps the sun off and warm at night. Good idea to keep the stem and flower ends dry and clean as well.

I thought I had read spray w/weak bleach mixture.
Can you spray the fruit w/insecticide?
I've sprinkled a mix of, half Borax/half Sugar, to kill the ants.
Do I treat the vine I've dug up with anything?

The Stem of 2 pumpkins has what looks like 2 juicy gold colored scars running almost the length of the stems.
Is that something, I should worry about. It may have been because I was covering the stem as well as the whole fruit.
DO you remove the covers when watering? I was leaving them on wet.
