Want to prep the soil in October for next year; what should I have in the soil to grow AGs?

First thing is to have a good soil test performed on what you already have. This way you know exactly what you need to add. Post your test results here on "soil preparation and analysis" and you will get some very knowledgeable replies on what to add to your patch. It's impossible to know what to add without knowing your soil condition. To much or to little of anything can break your season.
Good luck!!!

There are fairly inexpensive fixes for most depleted nutrients such as gypsom for calcium, lime for PH and of course poop for organic matter which is usually lacking the most and would benefit from a good load in the fall followed by some fresh in the spring for Nitrogen. Also, Nitrogen does not stick around very long so it is not that important in the fall.

get the "good" soil test and proceed on the recommedations of a good agronomist,,,you have the winter to research and develope a plan for next season that can start in very early spring to put the finishing touches on the patch (another test in early spring will let you do that fine tuning)
