I forgot to bring my string with me to tie off my pollination so I cut a tendril off and used it to tie the female after hand pollinating; it worked great! I hope this information helps other who are forgetful like me at times.

Im sure it will help some, but what do you mean by tieing a femail off?

After I pollinate the female by hand with a male, I tie the female flower closed to keep in the pollen and protect it from any cross pollination from the bees. I remove the tie the next morning. This process insures continuity in the gene pool, so you know what genes created your giant pumpkin. Keep a log for your records, for next year.

shouldnt the female be tied the night before as well. if it is open in the morning when you pollinate, it could have already been pollinated before you got to it.

i tie up the ready female the night before she will open. then i untie her in the morning and pollinate. then i tie her up again untill evening. this way there is a better control in pollination.

those cuc beetles love to squeeze into those females and you cant tell where they have been prior.

thats good. i also roll down a knee high pantie hose over the flower.. makes a nice tight fit.
