Thinking of doing systemic pesticides next year, what is the succes rate are growers having with the systemics?

100% with Merit. I usually apply Ortho Max once or twice a year as well, but his year no need. I am sold!

Orthenex works great but we only battle aphids here in the Pacific Northwest.

Im going with merit next year. I was gonna use it bought saw the price and put it back on the shelf in the beginning in the season. Hindsight I spent more on surface sprays this year and I made a mistake.

Merit 75WSP: 4 tsp / 1000 sqft as a drench.
Merit 75WSP: .10 tsp / gallon foliar.
Bayer tree / shrub is the same active ingredient (Imidacloprid).
Bayer T/S as a drench: 204 tsp / 1000 sqft or 4.25 cups.
Bayer T/S as foliar: 5.10 tsp / gallon.

Do a search for merit. It's been discussed plenty on the timing of application...and recently.
I've been using a combination of merit (systemic) and bifenthrin (contact) and it's absolutely deadly on the critters. I don't believe any pumpkin pest can survive this combination.

About Merit and bifenthrin. Yesterday I cut two SVBs out of the main and a leaf stalk. About 3wks ago I applied Merit and about 1 week ago bifenthrin. Now, I'm using the Bayer Tree version so... why didn't it work on these grubs? How long is Merit effective? Greg

You have to apply it correctly. Bifenthrin is contact. If they don't touch it they don't die. Merit is systemic. It's absorbed into the plant. If you sprayed it on the leaves it's only on the leaves. While merit works well that way for cukes it's best drenched in so the roots absorb it into the entire plant for SVB.
