My ag pumpkin leafs are very big (for me) 17x22 or so. Anybody know of any ag plants that have giant leafs, or the record.

Fogsurfer,

Have you ever heard the expression "were not growing salad". If you haven't get ready because your about too. lol

All leafs are about that size. I don't measure mine, I just try and keep them a nice dark green color.

Good luck

I'm a begginer, my pumpkins are'nt going to break any records this year, but I have grown the biggest leaf I have ever grown, its a step forward. (half way joking)

Well, I feel your pain. Last year was my first. Grew 3 plants and split 6 of 6 fruit. I still weighed a 783 # fruit for weighoff, but DMG. Grew another to 400# before she let go also.

This year I've done countless hours of research, had great genetics, lost 3-4 plants to pythium and my last lost the stump to SVB. Still have a solid fruit going though...for now.

I have an advantage of having a mentor every step of the way also...so this isn't easy. Back to the drawing board again and more hours of research.

fogsurfer, I'm a second year grower, and last year when I couldn't get a female pollinated to save my life. On one thread I mentioned how big my leafs were. Everybody in there brother told me "were not growing salad"

When your pumpkins are'nt there or there the size of a jack a lantern a leaf the size of a platter is a big thrill, don't you more experienced growers remember that.

WoW, that leaf your daughter is holding is huge. This fall I might ask for some seeds from that plant if you don't mind. This begginer is working his way up, the record breaking pumpkin might be a little down the road, but the big leafs, I think I can handle.

Fog, if you want huge leaves you just need to prune off every other secondary vine. That allows much more open space between vines and the leaves will grow much larger to fill in that space. If you want a big pumpkin you don't prune every other vine.

Fogsurfer, Actually the bigger the leaf, the easier it fall,s from wind, your better to have a little smaller leafs, but more of them,, more leafs bigger pumpkins, from a very good source

Hmmm....rattlehmdarnchuckshumbugdarndarndarn...o'k, it looks like I actually don't want giant leaves...vines? I want plants with vines as big as my arm, or a baseball bat, know of any seeds that usually do that.

Try the 860 Bowles, vines as big as my forearm. And I'm a pretty big boy, Leafs are nice size, but not to big, and leaf stalks are nice and short. Pumpkin is 32" cir at day 11.

I heard that you should Hunt for the Bowles seed in Wisconsin. Season Opens in early November. Out of State licenses are quite expensive also. I think he will trade for a Packer win over the Vikes but I'm sure..
