I have two of my stumps which were going soft I painted daconil on them and there starting to heal nicely. But were getting all this darn rain and I was wondering if its alright to cover the stumps to keep them dry. I cant get fans too them and I have no umbrellas. I have a bunch aof clear 4 Mil plastic. would it be alright to cover the stump with the plastic to keep it dry if I kind off made a tent out of it??? Thanks for any replys.

To help with svbs and such, I always bury them completely. Then, when it gets warm out I remove the full plastic from greenhouses, replacing it with only the top. This keeps the stump area dry. Finally, I leave a large bucket on top to further ensure it stays dry. Check up on it once in a while and you should be good.

To clarify, I guess I dont bury until its warm out because the SVBs dont come until then. To summarize, always buried, under greenhouse roof, and bucket. No problems here, always dry, always safe from eggg and diseases (well execept maybe a soil borne disease, but if thats an issue, the plant would get it wether you bury or not).

So Jro would it be alright just to put lets say plastic over it and hold it down with rocks or something. Or basically make a platic canopy over it to let a little air in. I think when I go home im gonna place plastic over it and hold the plastic down with rocks. You still seeing SVBS??? Im still seeing some and some stem holes but I cut the stems and found no worms. I had the same holes on some zuccini that I dont spray and found worms. Well im straying off topis sorry..so do you think Ill be fine with just laying plastic over it because were getting rain here everyday. Thanks man

This year for the first time I took 1 gallon milk jugs and cut the side off just below the handle part down to the acorss bottom. I attach it to a stake with duct tape and place it over the stump to protect from rain. So far seems to work. I have to check my photo gallery, I can't remember if i took picuters of them it not i will. Tim.

Sorry, I forgot this post. I would cover it, but make sure that it still gets air circulation, otherwise condensation will keep it damp...damp+still=mold.

No more SVBs here.

Also, I put buckets on top (under the greenhouse) with the bottoms cut out and then tape some cloth over the bottom to allow condensation to evaporate.
