my pumpkin at 8ft out set on june 28 is at 107lbs (166ott)it is starting to turn orange i finally got one to take at 18 ft onjuly 15 so far about the size of big grape fruit is the one turning orange already rpineg should i cull it and hope the best at the 18ft.the one at 8ft was putting on about 10 lbs aday now the last 2 it grew only 7lbs also should these giants stay yellow for most of the growing stage

Do you have it shaded at all. Usually Ive noticed if a pumpkins not shaded it tends to turn orange a little quicker.

yes ihave it complely shaded as of 1 week ago. it was turning a slight orange before i got the shade up though

Jeremy, best to start shading when pollinated, some do it even before. I use a big piece of cardboard bent in the shape of a tent until I know it's going to take off then go more elaborate with the shading.
Guvner, I asked the same question a couple weeks ago. I have one that started getting the orange tint about the same size as yours. I was told that the really orange ones will start turning early but keep growing. Mine is up to 370lbs and seem sto still be doing fine.

thanks for the replies i going to keep it going measuring it every 2 days and my one at 18 ft i will let go until it reaches beachball size if the 8ftr is still growing iwill cull the 18ftr and go for it.i am shooting this year for 400lbs cause what ive been told anybody anywhere should be able to grow the ag to 400
