I had 3 main plants two each had a pumpkin growing. Suddenly the leaves on the first plant to produce begin to wither and die, and new leaves that started to grow hung limp. It took a look a lot out of me but I aborted the entire plant. The main root structure was shot even though the pumpkin appeared live and well. I was afraid it would affect my other two plants. Sure enough within 2 days my other two plants began to thrive and their leaves stopped being spotty (i had removed some at the same time as removing the defective plant). The one pumpkin I have left is not growing very much and is yellow....are they supposed to be this color? From all other pics I see, they should be green. Is this just the plants' way of gearing up for the real produce that will come later? I'm so worried about them, I planted more seeds last night. I've counted two females that are in their early infancy. But they are yellow before being fertilized as well.

bessylu, The A.G. pumpkins frequently start out yellow, even before pollination, depending on genetics.

Ah, well, I've thrown out the pumpkin seed package, but I do recall seeing that it advertised them as being gigantic. Good to know....thanks! Um, but, if they're going to be gigantic, the one that's out there now will take until next year at the growing rate it's going at to get to regular jack-o-lantern size. It's funny how quick cucumbers grow, within days. My eggplant....I've been watching the small purple bulbs grow maybe 1/4 inch a week...they must be taking a lesson from my pumpkins

bessylu, Atlantic Giants are usually yellow. Read the diary's here and look at the pictures. What seeds do you have? Did you buy them at the store? The pumpkins will turn orange as they mature. You are fine. Let the bee's do the work on your two females and you will have a nice yellow pumpkin really soon. Don't over fert to turn them orange, that won't help. Nature will do that for you. Relax and enjoy the ride...it's a long one and before you know it you will have a monster in your patch. CG
