Keep your soil consistent...don't get it to wet or to dry...mother nature has a way of playing with you and your fruit but you should try to keep the soil at an optimum for the fruit. 1 cc of water = 1gram of weight so if you want 22 lbs a day the vine has to produce 10 kilos of water to the pumpkin...if the soil isn't consistent the fruit growth rates will vary puting on 2 lbs then jumping to 20 will sooner or later cause the pumpkin to split....like tomatos if it dries out then gets rained on they split cause the skin has already got tight...plenty of info here about 1" of water a week but you have to determine what your soil can handle. if it takes 100 gallons a day to keep it moist then try and give it that as evenly as possible throughout the day.Grow Em Big!
