Poll here.
Many people like to wait a while to start adding high potash fertilizers to their program.
When are most starting?

Steve,
I have been told by many growers to hold of on the K and Ca until the pumpkin hits 150-200# and I too am curious as to why. If slow and steady wins the race wouldn't it make more sense to keep a fairly steady, low rate dose available to the plant at all times post germination?
If it is our intention to removed all hills and valleys during the growth period would it not be to our advantage to make sure a steady source of nutrients (including water, light and heat although these can be beyond our control) is available at all times? Can we really say that our basal state is adaquate until the fruit reaches X pounds? My personal assumption at this time (very open to suggestion) is that as soon as the plant senses a successful germination hormonal signals are released triggering the utilization of differing nutrients to promote fruit growth - the plant's only goal. This means the plant is reaching into tissue and available soil reserves immediately. If that is the case wouldn't we want to begin supplementing at that point also?
I an very curious to hear various views on this.

I added almost no fertilizer until i had a keeper on each plant. Now they will go a regular schedule.
