…when pushing pumpkin growth? I’m a relative newb and am trying to increase calcium but have only calcium nitrate on hand for this purpose. Will the high nitrogen present problems at this stage of the game? Thanks all.

Hey so Calcium Nitrate is super strong; I would not substitute it for Calcium. That product is for vegetative growth.
Calcium products are pretty affordable and readily available. You can find many combinations of it: Cal-Bor, Cal-MG or straight Calcium, depending on what your plant is lacking.

Ailts says push some nitrogen all season the key word being "some". I'd be gradual with it, less might be more, so to speak.

The high bushel corn growers say this also. Their plants are totally green up to the day they harvest, its crazy.

I use the albion labs products. nutri-cal should also be similar. I'm guessing there are probably a few others that might work too.

I find it hard to believe that Cal Nitrate wouldn't help boost calcium. Perhaps Andy will cite something. Apple growers spray their crop with plain old calcium and it works for them. Calcium nitrate should be the most highly available form of calcium, short of going to a lab-type product... so it should work well, although there are many things to consider. Im no expert, but I'd say lightly drench it around the base of your plant, or foliar feed it, but definitely either use low concentrations or small quantities. Good luck, and if it doesn't help, then there's lots of other things you can try, next... I'm butting heads too much... I should sign out & give myself & you all, a break!!!

Lot of literature on Acetate-Based Nutrients, product called foli-cal from Monterey is what I'm using. Also trying a potassium acetate. Worth reading about decide for yourself.

Like Andy and Kevin said, N is the last thing you want this time of year.
There are plenty of low calcium nutrients on the market as this is what you should be keeping a closer eye on now. I spoon feed calcium daily this time of year, unless the tissue or soil test says otherwise.
I have noticed through testing, my N number really shoots down at the end of August. At that time I may do a little cal nitrate if the number is below 2000.
