My ph is 6.4 , I have a cover crop of winter rye & hairy vetch , will my ph drop when I till it under ? and what can I add to my soil to raise it and still be able to plant the first week of May . my patch is 40x30 I am tilling all under this thursday ,also I am adding 4 yards of 5 year old horse menuer compst too . thanks Mike

your cover crop shouldn't lower your ph much, if any. Add some limestone powder to your soil, it will raise you ph and calcium levels. Just use a small amount this close to planting, you will be fine. A ph of 6.4 will do fine even if you don't push it up this spring higher. 6.8 to 7.1 is perfect, but 1100 lb pumpkins have been grown in a ph even below 6.0 Best wishes, Jim
