Should I risk cracking the fruit, and fertilize late season, as in between now and mid October? Or would it be better to not, and let it cruise to the finish? Also would 4 31 37 be better than 20 20 20, or vice versa?

Only add small amounts. I would choose the 4 31 37... but I dont know your soil or watering. 20 20 20 probably is ammonium sulfate. In my opinion u dont want to add a lot of that or the plant can switch back to vegetation mode.

Very few of us know exactly what our plants need. It takes years of experience or testing the foliage. But imho it's unlikely that fairly good looking plant with a pumpkin on it would need a huge dose of anything.

I meant, a huge dose all at once. And I am sure there are exceptions to that rule but I dont know of any personally. Are you measuring the growth? I think you said you are on a budget. Research trickle feeding if you have time, good luck.

I have Don Langevins 3rd book, and in its chart, the oumplon was estimating 300 pounds. Looking at the 2017 charts, I saw it could be up to 320 pounds. This is 100 pounds above the best to come out of the patch, so I was trying to keep it alive longest. It was also putting on 16 pounds per day last week, so I was hoping to keep it going into October. Some of the leaves in the middle of the plant are dying, from age, and I was wondering if the extra nitrogen would help keep it healthy. Thanks!

Possibly... when they start sucking juice in late summer I still get confused about whether I am seeing ph, nitrogen, potassium, or magnesium dropping. Or all of the above. If you post a pic hopefully someone will know

"Slow and steady wins the race" Your gonna need less water and fertilizer late in the season. But you still want to meet the plants needs to keep it healthy.Healthy plant will keep feeding your pumpkin.

I may not know what I am talking about. One of the smart guys on YouTube says ammonium favors the reproductive cycle of the plant. The exact opposite of what I had figured. My bad. Just do the opposite of whatever I do, lol.

I think he gets it wrong sometimes, too but it's a smart discussion... He has a lot of stuff on youtube. I may not be smart but hopefully I can at least figure out who IS smart.

Thanks! I will definitely give a bit of fertilizer but not too much. I also have the same question for my watermelon, and tomatoes, should I keep fertilizing them like I have bee for the rest of the year, or not. Thanks!

For me, when the atmospheric nitrogen (rain) starts coming down mine probably wont need much nitrogen. It's getting too late for much additional plant growth so probably just a minimal amount to maintain the plant health... Like cojoe said.

No 'easing of restrictions' - that is why COVID-19 is still a pandemic. Whatever has been working, why change it? yeah, there is a widely-varied regimen for each grower, but i'm sure a plant and pumpkin are complacent as a human would be in that we get used to something and someone changes it, and that's when problems start occurring - like cranking the wheel a lit-tle too far and not making that icy curve---eg

Okay, so I should continue on with the 4 31 37 I have bee using. Thanks

Keep em happy... I am giving mine compost tea and calcium and maybe some micronutrients but I sprayed very lightly with some soluble rose fertilizer also. I am at 15 lbs per day. Maybe I can get that up to 16... or 17 idk... No tissue test, so I am just guessing. Even with a tissue test, I would still be guessing the amount but at least I would know what to apply.

I think small amounts should help but that's just a guess. Just use the minimum amount of food that the plant might need. Post some pics and get advice from one of the top growers. I will shut up now.

I'll probably just give it the 4 31 37, and change it too triple 20, if I need to get some greener leaves. I don't jave the ability to make compost tea, as I don't have the brewer, and when I made it by soaking the compost, it didn't work as well. Thanks!
