I bought calcium carbonate on kelp for less. If I foliar spray it will it give the plant extra carbon dioxide? I checked the cal carb on xtreme gardening and it is 100% calcium carbonate

My understanding of calcium carbonate (and products like calcarb) is that it provides a readily available source of calcium (roots and foliar) and will enhance carbon dioxide intake. Won’t produce or supply carbon dioxide but will assist the plant in absorbing it.

I use Lithovit which also states the main ingredient is calcium carbonate, and it claims to provide and increase the presence of carbon dioxide, so now I’m confused.

i had no idea that Tribodynamic was even a word, lol---
it sounded made-up at first. certainly something to Google for more details---eg---by the weigh, if you TALK to your plants, there's your carbon dioxide, lol...

One thing missing from the Lithovit story, is actual results of field testing. If it works, there shoud be data showing his, not just stories about how it should work. Anyone seen such data?

This might be of use . Search lithovit crop yield studies and see what might be found.

Here’s my question is calcium carbonate the same as lithovit or different? And if it’s different does it still give the plant extra co2

Adam , do a site search of both of them . There were some very interesting discussions. Then come back and tell us which one you would pick.

Okay here’s what I found

The description of lithovit is calcium carbonate and when it get absorbed by the plant it releases carbon byproduct

You need to check the calcium carbonate to make shore it’s not to alkaline
Someone said Beni Meir uses lithovit
Apply it early in the morning so that the dew can absorb it and make it last longer this also lets it dry with the dew and release the carbon
People say that when xtreme gardening says there “cal carb is unstable and breaks apart faster” it’s not true

I would pick calcium carbonate from kelp for less witch is $9 for a pound when it’s on sale. Nothing the other companies said proved that it was different from calcium carbonate except when xtreme gardening said it was unstable compare to normal cal carb. So if you have the money and believe them you might want to go with cal carb or lithovit. The thing is lithovit doesn’t talk about being unstable at all and I still proven to work very well.

With any luck some of the knowledge people that are familiar with this stuff and which one will give you the most bang for the buck (results) will chime in. They are probably at the convention so you might want to wait if you are not in a rush. I know if I get the chance , unless something changes it will be lithovit.

Is this just lime?

Spudder Thanks for the link. There is no link to original studies. So no way to tell what they were using as control, or what the soil test was in trial area. So not yet convinced as to what it is doing.

Where can Lithovit be purchased in the US?

I've shared his before but we did some greenhouse testing with this product and and noticed our co2 levels raise up to between 500 and 700ppm's for a few days after application then it would start to go down after a few days to the normal co2 levels.
One greenhouse we used nothing and the other greenhouse we used the recommended dosage.

I'll be using it again for sure!

Email TruckinPunkin to get your Lithovit. Do not go through Lithovit USA, I had many issues getting the product, then once I did, I discovered it was not a lb like adverised

Everybody be careful about the CO2 LEVEL in a greenhouse setting---my assumption would be that if TOO high, it could be lethal to not only beneficial critters in the soil (worms, especially) but also a grower...i REALIZE that that would be in an extreme case, but think of it like running a car in a garage---you just don't do it, without thinking of the possible consequence(s). eg

Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is nothing more than chalk, tums, the mineral calcite, the rock limestone, etc.
The pH is 9.91 so it is slightly basic.

Hmmm. I've always had good customer service and product from the Lithovit USA dealer, Doug Petersen

Not sure about Cal-Carb, but I've been using Lithovit faithfully since 2009. That 1st year we grew the #2 pumpkin in the World, our 1678 Hunt (lost to the 1725 Harp). We have used it every year with good results, including on last year's Canadian record 1959# pumpkin. We also use it on our tomatoes & other giants with good results.
Unfortunately there is no longer a supplier in Canada, but I managed to secure enough to last me a few more seasons.
