Question for those you of that water with a sprinkler system. Do you use the sprinkler system for misting or have a separate misting set up.

I use my sprinkler to cool the plant during the hottest times of the day. (if necessary)
Basically, the timer takes care of it while I'm at work.

I have a friend building me a temperature switch that will control a conventional 24VAC irrigation valve. This year I'll run seperate low-volume misters for cooling. Last year I was using the irrigation sprinklers for cooling. I felt that these, combined with way too much natural rain, led to more water than the plants needed.
The idea for 2004 is to only have misting occur at those times the temperature justifies. In other words, I don't have to guess whether or what time the temps will get high enough to merit misting. I like easy.

The above controll mission is a most worthy consideration for those who work and can not baby sit the daily heat. I to had to much water by not being heat controlled last year. ...There were two reasons. My misting valves were emitting to much to long. It was a first misting year. I am cutting my gallons per hour misting in half from eleven to six gallons per hour. At the same time I bought some "oops plugs" so that I may reposition the emmitters and plug the holes. I bought even lower gallons per hour misters in case I need them. The object of a misting system done perfectly would have the mist evaporate totally just above the leaves. ....In greenhouses with controlled circulation this may be possible. Out there in the patch and natural breezes to all kinds of stormy winds we enjoy a little less perfection. :)
...I enjoyed so much of mother's rain last summer that I am almost certain that I learned little about my misting system except that I had to much emisson of water no matter how good it looked on paper or in the air. Certainly the bottom line last summer was that I likely would have been better off without it! Lack of adequate control was not the systems fault!
