My soil test just came back indicating 6.1 PH. I'd like to be closer to 7 come spring planting in my 1000 sq ft patch. Already added 100 lbs calcitic limestone this fall. Will retest again come Spring, but don't hold great hope I will be anywhere near 7PH. Anyone got recommendations ? All input appreciated. Thanks, Duff

You're on your way Duff. The pH isn't going to change rapidly. Nor once the lime is "finished" will the pH stay where you want it to. Over time you'll develop a feel (through anual testing) for how much to add & how the patch will respond.
I always apply by the lab report "book". And yet I always know the pH will drop all the while the lime is reacting. Thus I'm becoming a believer in the "last lime just before planting out" crowd.
You needn't be right at 7.0 for good results. Indeed a pH of 6.6-6.8 is what many do consider perfect. Lot's of record winners come out of less than "ideal" pH soils.

Duff.........I predict that your PH will be at 6.7 this spring. Further I predict that your summer PH drop off will be about half the gain you realize. Bet you a buck here and now that my guess is within two tenths of being correct!
I like to use ground limestone feeling it is a touch slower to achieve change and consequently a bit slower to lose gains. When using ground limestone or pelleted limestone the change will show up within four to five months. This is why I like fall placement of PH adjustments.
Don't sweat your PH....you are already within a good growing zone with PH. Tweaking it a little towards 7.0 or a 7.2 max was indeed a correct move. In the future just be carefull you do not add to much. You are in the less than a bag category for adjustments now!

Thanks for the positive input guys. Nothing else much to do during these winter months but to strategize for the coming season! Best of luck all. Duff
