Why do all prefer very expensive organic fertilizers? Can a plant distinguish between an organic and a mineral fertilizer?

megakin, a lot of this information is just false. It is true that there might be some benefical microorganisms in organic ferts but the other ingredients are the same. A plant doesn`t care whether it gets its (for example) Nitrogen or Potassium from a organic or mineral source. It is also true that there might be more trace elements in there, but there also exist cheaper mineral fertilizer with trace elements. More important is the form in which the fertilizer appears. (some forms need longer to be available for the plant, depending on temperature and bacteria)

I have to agree with Team Z on this one. Plants do not care about the sources of NPK and micros, they just use them when available and needed. Using natural based fertilizers is more about improving the biology and health of the soil, increasing organic matter and improving the growing environment for the the roots, etc.

If you don't believe that a healthy soil biosphere is important. That is your choice. The plants don't seem to care, but the microorganisms so.

I do believe that a healthy soil is important but the price gap between organic and mineral ferts is just too high. Buy your ferts where farmers buy their stuff. Think many of you could safe a lot of money ;)
