I can buy Magnesium Chloride from my local ag co op much cheaper than Magnesium Sulphate my question is can it be used in the patch?

It makes a fine de-icing compound. It's also popular as an agent to keep down dust since the very high slat content attracts atmospheric humidity.

But I suppose in a pinch, if you only needed a very small amount of magnesium as a supplement, you might get away with it. A big risk unless we spend some time calculating the chlorides.

Magnesium sulfate granular is pretty cheap. Chelated forms of mag sulfate are reasonable enough considering their efficiency. Dolomitic Lime delivers magnesium if acidic soils are the norm.

Let me know if you have to use mag chl & I'll figure out the highest safest rate.
