Make sure you get a hydrolyzate not emulsion, processed at low temperature. Hormones, enzymes, amino acids, vitamins and protiens are harmed with high heat. Look for a high oil content. The best preservative is food grade phosphoric acid. Alternatives include, industrial phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid. Make sure the fish source is from the ocean not fresh water, Ocean fish contain more oils and trace minerals with low or no heavy metals. Ascophyllum nodosum is widely regarded as the best kelp source. The same type of cold processing is important to not denature all the benefits. Lastly, it should be filtered through a 150 mesh filter to keep it from clogging sprayers.

While I agree with the hydrolyzed vs emulsion. The fish source being ocean I do not feel is completely relevant. Many of the fresh water fish used( Salmon, Carp) are an excellent source of nutrients and trace minerals

While all fish do contain minerals that are benficial to plants there is a big difference in the quality of fish/kelp fertilizers. I want the best on the market.
Lake or river fish do not contain the minerals or oil density of ocean fish. Fresh water fish also tend to be exposed to more pollutants and heavy metals.

been making homemade fish for 10 years & have tried store stuff aint no comparison to the natural fish in a bucket.them yellow oil drops thats the good stuff & you lose the oils times it gets used for food & scraps turned into ferts in a bottle

My opinion. Sea fish are in seawater, filled with every mineral there is, the fish are a product of this. Lake, stream, river, pond are fresh water, there is nothing in it, no minerals, nothing. More info here seaagri.com. So if you use ocean fish you are getting more nutrients, minerals for your plants.

About fish emultion V.S. fish hydrolysate: I would prefer to use both. Sure, fish hydrolysate is a higher quality product in many perspectives, but is does not contain a high N to P, K ratio, so it does not supply sufficient nitrogen when it is needed. Therefore, I would like to use fish emultion during the plant growth stage, and use fish hydrolysate as an all year round sort of fertilizer, due to its fairly balanced N, P, and k levels. This is just my oppinion, being that both products should be used baised on the current condition of the plant, and, despite the fact that both products are make from the same base product, I think that these two items should be treated as two completely seperate items.
