Do you put the 4-6 inches of manure on every year or is that for a New area? I have always(like for 15 years,Sandy soil) put the leaves of 2 huge Maples into my garden along with a few pine needles and grass clippings.I had my soil tested this spring and had a pH of 6.8, Organic matter 8.1 Phosphours 375, Potassium 255. As a first time AGG I managed to get 2 200lbers.. my goal was 1@100lbs. any suggestions would really help! Thank you,Nodd

yes every year, I use manure that has been sitting around a while. This fall I will be adding some fresh manure to help break down the sea weed that will be going in. good luck Dean o

dont pine needles poison the soil or is that only in large amounts

Anything that was at one time alive will compost. Pine needles will too but they take longer due to resins in them.
I would not add large quanities of pine needles. A few mixed in with other leaves are no problem. All compost ends up at about 7.0 PH. All material tilled into the soil will go to about 7.0 PH as it changes into compost and humus. This answer assumes a nice mix of all kinds of leaves. Most fall additives will be in pretty good shape for you by next spring.

Yes, twice a year is even better! Soils are hungry and need to eat often, over all sandy soils.
