hi all. i have my irrigation system planned out. it includes watering both under the leaves and over the leaves. the only problem is that i have a 320 sf patch and the pipeing takes up alot of area. should i drop the below the leaves watering? burying the pvc is not an option. thanks!

below leaf watering is more valuable than above in most usages however, a small area like 320 sq ft? would do well with just overhead watering. with such a small growing area? id just concentrate on having my soil right and go from there. you can only expect so much from such a small plant area. pap

With an area that small, you can do hand watering which might be what Pap is implying? Doesn't mean has to be on top of the leaves, you can duck down and spray back with the hose under the canopy a good ways in. I do a fair share of peripheral hand watering when it gets above 100 along with my soaker hose set up. I'd get wiped out by mildew in 1 week if I did all overhead.
Yard, I saw a guy who grew over 700 pounds in 80 or so square feet a few years back.

I have used the overhead and below leaf canopy watering system with good success. I use 1/2" pvc pipe to minimize the diameter of the pipe and just allow the vines to grow over top of the pipe. Then I bury the vines and the pipe together. If I set fruit to close to the pipe I just reroute the pipe as needed.

The first year (2008) I grew an AG, it was from a 1402.5 Bosworth out of the Wallace 1068 selfed. Grew it on 200 sq. ft. Hand watered everyday. Taped at 902 lb. Snowed a couple of days before weight-off. Developed a soft spot. I now hand water a 600 sq.ft. patch. I like hand watering.
