I have been reading about corn syrup and everything I can find says it's the same sugar content as maple syrup and molasses. I just want some other grower input, corn syrup is way cheaper than real maple syrup! 55% fructose 42% glucose 3% other sugars

melons,, thats a good question,, fer sure ,, i will be doing an experiment this yr,, with corn syrup versus mollasses, both are cheaper here than maple syrup,

I know a guy that buys bags and bags of just sugar to put on his field corn... He's says it improves the yield.. feeds the micros on the plant?

I've heard some tell of some magical powers in maple syrup but my view is that molasses, corn syrup or even plain sugar likely has the same effect. I say this even thought I have sugar maples on my property and have lots of bud syrup. I'm thinking of experimenting with honey this year. Still doing the basic research and pricing the costs of one bee hive.

any kind of sugar will work I'm sure I'm just looking for something a little less expensive, I use dry molasses on my patch I'm looking to put pancake syrup in my compost tea, as it's cheaper than cane sugar and liquid molasses, just wandering if anyone else was trying this ?

Melons or anyone else, do you only apply once the plants are in to feed the mycos or does it help all soil microbes (for me to apply now)?

my feed mill i have asked all kinds of questions along these same lines
simple sugar source feed grade and avoid preservatives and(sulfer)
we want bacterial growth for garden

what i dont know in maple syrup are there preservatives added to keep it safe for humans? if so will it kill bacteria/fungi if used in garden

Yeah after reading these posts I'll just stick with molasses it's worked so far, smallmouth I put the dry in when I do my other ammendments April 1st and spray compost tea under the leaves as soon as the plant starts growing also soil drench every now and again. This seems to work for me, but my neighbor grow's AG's and he has success doing things different from me. 5 gal. of molasses at my local feed store is $20 maybe I should go to kentucky and get a truck load, not to far for me

Real maple syrup doesn'nt have anything added to it. the sugar concentration is the preservative. It creates an osmotic pressure that dessicates any bacteria or fungi. Honey acts the same way, it is too concentrated to support bacteria or fungal growth.

High salt concentrations in cured meat does the same thing, adding sugar to the cure increases the osmotic pressure without making it too salty to eat. Bacon and hams tended to get sweeter as you move south because their "cold storage" wasn't as cold. With modern refridgeration, it is irelevant, but is still how traditional hams are cured.

Tractor supply up here sells a 50 lb bag of dried molasses for about $22. I'm going to work some into the soil before I plant this year.

If you put enough corn syrup on your corn plants this year, after harvest would the corn crop yield enough corn syrup to apply to next year's crop, or would you have to buy additional corn syrup to apply to the corn next year to yield enough corn to produce the corn syrup you're trying to sell to make the corn syrup you buy this year worthwhile for the next two years?
