If a pumpkin patch soil test recommends 10 pounds of nitrogen and urea is 50-0-0, then a person needs to add 20 of urea during the season. How does a person take into consideration the nitrogen that is added during foliar weekly foliar feeding? Say a person plans to use peters 20-20-20 on a once a week basis. Simply, how do you figure the amount of nitrogen in 5 gallons of 20-20-20 foliar?

Bat, I'll give this a shot, but not for sure. The way I understand it is you amend the soils as recommended, and then the foliar is "supplemental" as nutrients are depleted. You should also change your sprays as the season progresses. Here's a plan I used as a guideline last year.

20-20-20 fertilizer is usually a dry fertilizer sold by weight. Determine how much liquid fertilizer you intend to use, then determins how much dry fertilizer it takes to make that ammount. 5 lbs of dry 20-20-20 is 1 lb of nitrogen. Unless you are adding more than 10% of the nitrogen recommendation as a foliar, you shouldn't need to adjust your rate. you can also do split applications of the urea, although it will burn leaves and you may not be able to incorporate it later in the season.

Thanks for both of your inputs. I understand now that the same math works for soluables.

Thanks for the heads up on the urea during the season.
