Ok nothing else to do this time of the year so thinking of a new watering system the hose is getting old i looked at the starr setup but it costly i have talked with some growers about drip and they said it is a pain to set up and take down over head is said to cause disease problems what is really the best to go with

Rain Water :) I like drip or soaker systems...nice even watering over a period of time..

if you look at alot of heavy hitters and WR holders, they use simple watering systems. The important thing is to get the water to the plant when it needs it. The easier you make that task, the more likely you will do it. One thing you should never do is put off watering because you expect rain. If your fruit speeds up its growth when it rains, then lack of water was limiting its growth.

Ben makes a great point! I tried the drip tape and could never really gauge the depth of saturation. Set-up pre-season and knock-down post season not too big a deal. Moving lines once pumpkin set more of a pain! I currently use overhead 6x/day.
Last cycle around 3PM so leaves dry out before nightfall...no PM or other uglies last two seasons w/good spray regimen.

that's what i was thinking duff over head is cheaper and set up on a timer makes it much easier for me

I do under the canopy and under the canopy....both timers.....Switching to Dan Micro all the way around....for more even coverage and fast easy break down.

We use a basic KISS technique here in Cameron. A simple 3/4" hose with a heavy duty sprayer (like a fire hose sprayer). We spray it out as a light rain overhead. It doesn't take long to pump out 100 gal & we can make sure the plant gets 100% coverage. We sprayed in the early morning (@ 7 am) so that the plant will be dry early & hopefully help avoid disease problems. Easy to set up in the spring & easy to take apart in the fall.

next year rons doing four plants with the drip tape. me ? i still prefer to overhead water as needed.the overhead method is also good for a quick cool down a couple to three times a day on the really hot afternoons.
i use the larger sprinkler heads that sit atop a set of tripod adjustable legs.

there are great advantages though to using drip tape system. you can inject not only water but any water soluables as well.
