help me. this is my first giant pumpkin year. i can't find 15-11-39 anywhere. that's what i need for late july, right? my fruit is just larger than a basketball, am i on track for east central MN? also, should i make a bed of sand? any advice is welcome!

Don't worry. Pumpkins can't read fertilizer labels. Growers often get too hung up on the percentages.
A good finishing fertilizer has a 1-1-2 like ratio.

By the way....We still use a lower Potash fert now. Too much K too early can cause prematuration.

Not trying to hijack your message thread but, is there a maximum number of K to use for later in the season and when do you switch to the K focus fertilizers?

Joetterer. Yes, make a bed of sand, enough to cushion and not let the pumpkin touch soil. You're on track if your pumpkin is growin. Pumpkins don't know regions.
A soil test is necessary for accurate K rates at season-end. Switch to K during the rapid-growth period but not too quickly as Tremor has advised.
Max % of a K fert that I know is 0-0-60. Most common though is 0-0-50 (K-Sulphate), 0-0-60 (Potash), muriate of potash (Potassium Chloride)

My pumpkin is a little smaller than a basketball should i be worried. ive never done this before. ive been giving it miracle grow. didn't know to use fertilizer. any suggestions. my kids teacher last april gave us this pumpkin and is having a contest and i dont know what im doing. help

try to get some neptunes fish fertilizer and foliar feed it that ifound it cheap but it depends on the store.

thanks for the advice i bought some fish fertilizer and foliar feed i just gave it to the pumpkin yesterday i'll keep you posted on its growth. thanks so much
