I have a couple ponds that are just full of elodea (aka anacharis). I want to take a lot out, but I was thinking I might be able to get some use out of it. I was thinking I could use it like a seaweed fertilizer that I have been hearing so many good things about.
So could someone either explain how to make the fertilizer or point me to a good instructional website? Also has anyone else ever tried this?

From what I understand, only the seaweed found in oceans has the trace elements that are so diserable to us. I dont think pond stuff would be a good choice. But you could throw it into a compost pile, with some manures and what not and get some good use that way.

I suspected that would be the response I got. However, I still want to try it with elodea to see what happens.

You may end up with more diseases than is worth it. pondweed has not been proven to be beneficial.

Me, I'm making my own fish emulsion/seaweed. I was told there is no real nutrients in lake seaweed/pond algea. I went to a a oriental food market and bought actual seaweed. It is slow to disolve. I than went to the local coastal seafood market and got all there throw out fish scraps, I cut them up into 4 inch pieces. I put both the fish and seaweed in a 5 mgallon bucket along with mollases to disolve it.

Oh yeah, its not fully disolved but I'm using it. I lower a strainer into the bucket and scoop out fish emulsion/seaweed, it keeps out any fish or seaweed that might be floating around. Plants like it.
