Dave, prefer cattle/horse manure if any. problem is that your putting lots of weed seeds in your plot when using manure. I've switched to nothing but compost straw and mowed grass or hay bales. Watch out when using chicken manure. It's heavy on nitrogen and tends to cause aborts if used to heavily. A trick I have used for years is to get hay/straw bales and spread out on plot and then run over them with a mower to pulverize the stuff. Great way to add nutrients to plot.steve

Dave, be careful with the chicken like Steve said. its powerful stuff, and if you use it, try not to inhale it, that stuff is bad news. Weed seeds are definatly a problem with manure, composting definatly will help.

pumpkinpley, I allways use FREE MANURE the free'er the better. The most sought after is the kind thats loaded for you, and smells sweet like giant pumpkins just cut open for carving! Trust me free manure is great manure.....

Dave, i used composted chicken manure last year. its very dry and takes to the air easily. and the smell is unreal. Gads,i agree the best manure is free manure that's loaded for you........unfortunatly, i get mine for free, but i have to load it myself........by hand!!
