No significant lead if any metal in newsprint today. Even in the days of set lead print it was only a mini trace.

I emailed the local newspaper to have a look at my pumpkin on harvest day but they didn´t even reply.
I´m not going to feed the patch with these liepapers. They make you mad, so how can your pumpkin profit??

wow everyone seems has a problem with newspaper in their patch! i thought you could use it as a mulch or shed it up like maple leaves.

You can use it in compost bins, in limited quantity, I know. Balancing your brown matter (which includes paper) with the proper amount of green matter....so why not be able to use it as mulch?? Especially if you have one of those personal paper shredders to make it small enough to decompose well.

What do you have to lose by trying a little bit of it?

Some people claim that it works well, although I have not heard any "heavy hitters" endorsing this technique. The problem I had (with mulch in general) is that it provided a hiding place for squash bugs and other non-beneficial insects. It also provided a nice moist environment perfect for fungus.

my idea in mulching with this would be to spread it out in full sheets and then throw just a little of dirt over it to keep it from blowing away. I did it around my corn this year and it took along time for weeds to come through once i remove the pumpkin plant that grew over it i will see how it worked.
