Pumpkin plants plants like to soil all around them moist but not drenched. If ya can squeeze the soil and just a little moisture rings out then your good. Try not to water the leaves as much as you water the soil under the leaves.

At peak growing times you need at least 50 gals/ plant per day. We apply upwards of 200 gals/ plant per day between day 20 and day 40 of the pumpkins growth, depending on heat and rainfall. If you don't have that much water, put a little on every day. Be sure to water before a big rain, to keep the pumpkin from spliting.

I have only been to Nevada once, but it was so hot and dry. We have lots of heat in the summer, once or twice over 100, but usually humid too. The dry heat in Nevada would be killer on pumpkins. I bet you couldn't water them too much if you tried.
