Depends on the goal. The most significant part of the question is "which method works best for you"?

In general, granular ferts are tilled in pre-planting to make NPK soil corrections based on a soil test.

Sprayable ferts are often used to "spoon feed" small amounts regularly to prevent "holes" in nutrition availability.

Slow or controlled release forms of Nitrogen may be found in any preparation but you need to read the label for the WIN (Water Insoluble Nitrogen)faction. The "nutrients derived from" statement is also a good source info.

I set up a miracle grow feeder for $8. I fill it with Neptunes Harvest seaweed and Neptunes Harvest or Alaska Fish. I use a little every two days. Once a week I added AgroK liquid calcium and liquid MicroNutrients. All was about 4 oz/gallon. Beginning of the season I added 4 yards of fresh manuer, leveled off the PH and added gypsum. Do this as the soil test commands. I did, up to July 1 use some dry organic fertilizer from Agway around the stump once a week. Next year I will be getting into compost tea and am looking into producs like Bio-endo plus from sites like Holland's land o giants.
