Which method of watering & fertilizing is more important as the plant matures and the pumpkin is > than 200 lbs - stump feeding or foliar feeding or both?

we try and stay away from wetting the stump as much as possible the plants stump and the pumpkins stem are under lots of stress this time of year and tend to get soft spots etc. for that reasom we are carefull not to get to much water on the plants base

I mean stump rot not stem rot. Sorry about that, late night and a long day.
I have liquid sevin but is there anything else I can get tomorrow to try to salvage it?

Fungal rots of the stump (basal crown) won't respond to Sevin as it is an insecticide. What you need is a fungicide. Without seeing the disease, it is normal to scrape out the infected area until you see healthy green conductive tissue, then dust with dry Captan (or similar) dust then keep it DRY. A constantly running fan is very helpful. Some growers also paint straight Daconil (a liquid flowable) fungicide right on the infected area.
If a true vascular disease destroys the vine from the INSIDE then this "scrape & treat" process won't be possible.

If I do the scrape and treat process it will take half of the vine, if this is the case, should I still do it, or just remove the main and restart over by transplanting it with a healthy vine?

I found some Daconil today and will apply it provided it stops raining.
