I have been told recently that water softeners add damaging levels of salts to the soils. Is this true? If so I could just bypass my softener for the season I'm not that concerned with having it on.

I would By-Pass it for watering. The little bit of salt transfered is not worth the problems it may cause in the future.

The first letter in sodium is S which is the first letter in Satan. Think of it that way.

I have first hand knowledge of sodium issues. If you want to guarantee lower weights, water with sodium.

Many contractors don't run the cold water through the softener. I know in my house my cold water is hard. Are you sure your's runs through the softener?? Hard cold water tastes better. Warm soft water washes better.

Alot of the time the outdoor spigots are by-passed. Otherwise your system would refresh to often..being costly.

When we put in our softener we had all the outside spigots with just well water. I also have one inside spigot in my brick planter that is well water.
