i dont know much cornwall, but i do know that vermiculite helps drainage and/or holds saturation or whatever when mixed with perilite. Hell, i think its probably good for just about any little start,seed, or cutting regardless of the #s. just my thought.- I like to use a spaghnum peatmoss mixture to get things going.I have no idea what the ph is on that.

I forgot to add that i would use spagnum peatmoss mixture to get any kind of seed going in that god put on the earth.

I tried some vermiculite in compost and liked it so much that I went out and bought a big mother bag of it to mix into my planting areas,problem is my soil had pH7.7 Peatmoss is the answer bones a couple of bags of that will neutralise things its pH3.5-4.0

you could always use some lime or ash to level things out as well.
