I mean from the large animals that he treats.

I live accross from a large/small animal vet. I have not asked him (about his large animal manure) yet because since he is a vet he probably uses antibiotics and other medicines in treatment for the sick animals. I'm not sure if I would want to use it in may patch. He also has between four and seven horses in a different barn that he raises so that would be easier (mentally) to remove from his barns than the treated animal manure. What do you all think?...Tom

i wouldnt use any manure other then manure from an animal that doesnt eat meat. as far as large animals, what does that mean exactly? horses? cows?......as long as your not talking about dogs/cats.....or anything like that.

Large animals would be horses/cows/sheep and goats.
No, I would not use anything that came from Dogs or cats and the like. For like you (Scott)said that they are meat eaters.

I'm more concerned about the medications that a vet would use would interfere with the growth of the pumpkins.

But, if I could get my hands(shovel) on the manure from his horses, that would be ideal....Tom

I laid a lot of rabbit manure (about 8 tons on a 3000 sq. ft. patch) that came from a laboratory and the plants that are in it now have been doing great for a good week or so. Long term, who knows? I've never tried it before on anything before. Good luck!

Pappy, thats a lot of wascally wabbit cwap!!! I would be real leary of any "By product" from an animal hospital! There is such an abundance of crapola (Besides F-Toms) why take a chance on stuff from sick animals???

I'd go ahead and use it. Most of the chemicals you might worry about will be gone. Last year I got manure from the local Auction, I'm sure they have more sick animals run through there then the vets does and my pumpkins did great.

After thinking about it, I think I'm not going to ask him (the vet) about obtaining the wastes. Just does not settle with me to what might be in it. Thanks for the input...Tom
