I forgot that some growers do things like the cal wraps. In that case, I don't think putting the foil directly on the flesh of the pumpkin would be a good idea. But what Captain Invisible said about inserting the foil between the blanket layers or Edward said about a thermal blanket. Kyle's idea about the styro insulating panels sound intriguing as you build structures to protect your plant in the early spring, why not build one to protect your fruit and help it gain more weight in the fall? They're only like $4 a pack and I can't see any Ag needing more than 1 1/2, maybe 2. The right glue and I one would have a really light weight termal insulating mini shelter for their fruit. Nothing to put on and take off. My point was simply that a blanket is great, but things like foil add an additional layer. Although I really wasn't thinking of 40 degree nights, where growers need to almost chip the ice off their fruit in the morning first. I'm getting a few 57 degree ones now.

Yea,I like that thermal blanket idea as a shelter also.

remay on top of the plant, a nice clear plastic mini greenhouse over the fruit, a heat source for the greenhouse to be used as needed, can make the difference come weigh off day

last year at topsfield i dont think 10 lbs seperated quite a few of the bigger fruit
an addition couple lbs can make a big difference if your trying to squeeze everything you can out of her

i would not reccommend this additional work and cash layout unless you really have a chance to do some weighoff damage or you are still getting 10 and up daily come early sept
