With the normal amout of water to area sq/ft being 100 gal water to 1000 sq/ft growing area what will the ratio be for a 700 sq/ft patch?

John, I don't know what ratio you are using but I do know that 1 inch of rain per week equals out to 1.6 gallons per square foot per week. So if your patch is 700 sq ft that would be 1,120 gallons of water per week or 160 gallons per day if you go that route. But you also have to factor in what the rainfall that week has been, as well as how your soil drains.......Paul

Another factor needs to be weighed in. Each patch has a humus content. If the humus content is high the water will be held in place longer.

As you learn how much may be needed nothing beats a shovel to enable your hand to feel the moisture at four to six inches down into your soil.

This may be jock strap engineering but there is none better than your own discovery. It may be crude but I have a six inch piece of plastic pipe set in the center of my patch where I can pull it at will and stick my hand down in the hole.
