I have seen the discussion on heavy weight peppers. I would like to give it a shot. Start as soon as possible indoors then transplant.

I’m more interested in the wow factor of sheer size vs actual weight, if that matters. Probably not in the early age of this new enthusiasm.

Started mine today. The 695 Nieuwenhoff which is from the Colossal variety from what I understand. Found more from the Colossal variety in a catalog and started those. Also, some from the Mega Gold Hybrid, another large sweet pepper variety. It seems like more people are interested in growing large sweet peppers so anything is possible. Trying new varieties or others from the Colossal variety could bring on a source of new lines.
Linus, I think I understand your statement about seeds you will send should not need a bubble but not sure. The world record seeds I received were sent in a letter envelope in a small zip-lock bag. It looks like it was "rolled" to where the seeds were pressed through the bag. It looks like they are Ok but the potential was there for them being crushed. I'd use some bubble envelope if I were you.

Check out the other gardening message board. There is a thread dedicated to giant bell peppers. In it John says that the 695 should be about an F8 Colossal. The 695 was grown from his 599. My indoor pepper this year is grown from the 599. I have seeds drying now from that plant. Looks like I harvested about 30 seeds. Not bad for an indoor vibration pollination. I also have about 20 other peppers set on that plant, but they are all still very young. Genetics from it should be very similar to the original 599 with such a high F number. This weekend will be starting more pepper plants from a variety of John's peppers thru the years. I only have a few seeds of each of these, but hopefully will get seed stock from all of them. With the interest I have seen so far, I think giant bell peppers could become very popular soon. I am hoping that growers will share their experiences.

I'd be interested in giving these a shot this year too. Don't have any giant stuff to trade, but have a box full of various and sundry. Tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, peppers mostly.
