I must say the progeny from your 1374 Engel were consistently round and orange this year.

My thought on a beautiful, bright, orange has to be that 811 Gerhardt the foss pumpkin is pretty so is that engel pumpkin;1059 vm These pumpkins are hard to beat as far as color!!

Question for Bubba Presley, Rock and roll legend; How are you gonna judge your orange contest ; Will the winner be a bright orange and not real big? or will the winner be A heavy pumpkin and not so bright orange?

The heaviest Orange pumpkin period. The goal is to grow a world record orange pumpkin. Not lite peachy orange, but a for sure 95% would agree its orange. If more then 2 members in the contest dont like my decision.I will turn it over to a 3 man team to make the call.I think the winner could go either way.We need to put orange back into the big Kins>>

The term orange gets flung around too much in my opinion. There is the color orange, and then there's the real deal for instance the 1059. Many pumpkins mentioned here are the real deal. But you can't forget about shape. Shape is at least half the criteria or more when I consider a Howard dill winner. Half the big "orange" pumpkins that get chatted about wouldn't make even my long list. Again I'm not really talking about any seeds discussed on this thread. But I would be concerned that a virtual orange contest would be setting the stage for a fight.

Good point Jim.
I think any of the three Clementz seeds(1317, 1177, and 1734.5) could be good to use in breeding big and orange. I'm thinking of using one of those Clementz seeds(if I get my hands on one), and breeding it into a super orange producer(such as your 811 or similar). The 1734.5 Clementz is one I'm leaning towards right now.

Yes I agree,if your looking for 100% perfect pumpkin you could really set the bar high & even weed out my line of seeds if you wanted to. Butt heres the Big BUTT, The goal here is to keep orange pumpkins growing over 2000 lbs.Thats my goal.I think the 2006 color ruling has drawn us away from that. The quest for the heaviest pumpkin in the world is fine.BUTT,One thing I noticed is people looking at my 1768 Clementz in 2014 & saying "Is that a squash??".If it doesn't look like a pumpkin? Whats the point? So I want to grow pumpkins that a total newbie looks at ans says "Wow! Look at that pumpkin"There is no guarantee with any seed that you get orange BuTT we can improve the chances greatly & get a line of seeds that will make the Top 10 in the world each year.So please join me in my quest at Worldwidegiantgrowers.com for $35 you get a 1734 -1947 or 1177 seed & How to grow video series on my Secret Facebook page.Plus you may win a 1317 in a giveaway. Its a great deal with prizes all season long. Were having Fun & growing Big Kins.I just set up a new mobile app so you can join on your cell phones.

1172 Grande, has 2 WR genetics lines, plus the orange genes from the 1450 Wallace that fueled the Leiber Orange...I have been working on this lineup for a while...not always easy getting the desired shiny mottled orange color to cross with and HEAVY to boot...so now...Ill keep adding to it...more red orange..

dixiebellear-alot of the growers offering free seeds keep diary's-go to the diary's section-run your cursor arrow over the little envelope on the growers page-on the bottom that growers email will pop up. Then send the grower a self addressed stamped bubble envelope (sasbe) with a thank you note inside.

Any Engel seed will throw orange. I will give the 1374, another go next year. The 781 I think has a lot of promise, as well as the 1143. Heck the 1048 is even OK. Color, Shape Symmetry, and to the chart are my criteria
